I'm out here. Kinda. I'm in Toledo but I wanna get outta dodge. Theres nobody around here to jam with and I been stuck masterin' the same 5 tracks over and over and I just hate makin damn drum beats anymore (I do all my creative stuff usually trippin', and when I look at that same old SR-15, with that dumbass name - Alesis - I just crack up. Little box to make some beats and s***. That just seems funny as hell.... and when you actually try to make one..... hahahahahaha that little things goofy.) I got way off track. Anyway, so you aint never gonna see me giggin' or nothin, least not anytime soon, but I'm out here Gazin'.

The only thing that's keeping me by the lakes though, is Ekoostik Hookah. You heard of 'em or hearda Hookahville? If you like jam bands they are the best around right now. So much energy, perfect atmosphere, perfect people. You gotta see 'em. If you can, go to a 2 or 3-day festival.

Check out this monthly event in Detroit.

Join Auralgasms, Thursday, Jan 29 at Proof Martini Lounge in Downtown Detroit for a truly unique event. You won't be hearing the same old tired tunes that other DJ's play, drinking the same watered down beers and well drinks and screaming over the music to hear your friends. Atmosphere is the Alternative to those nights.

DJ's Zumby and MikeyLove and teletran.one will be spinning their blend of Dreampop, Britpop, Triphop, Shoegaze and Electronica (think: Sigur Ros, Jesus and Mary Chain, Cocteau Twins, The Daysleepers, Lush, Esthero, Massive Attack, Hooverphonic, The Smiths, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Wolfsheim, Catherine Wheel, Ride, Slowdive and more)

We will also have a special guest DJ for the evening. DJ Deornight will be spinning his flavor of the bliss in a set you won't want to miss!!

Back in the good old days, we had Majesty Crush. In the slightly less old but equally good days, we had bands like Auburn Lull, Mahogany, and Scott Cortez (Astrobrite, Lovesliescrushing), though many of those groups came out of East Lansing, oddly enough.

Nowadays, there's less shoegaze in the local music scene. People seem to have reverted to the garage rock sound that was big in Detroit in the '70s. Sisters of Your Sunshine Vapor are a great shoegaze-oriented group, though, and City Center (fronted by Fred Thomas of Saturday Looks Good to Me) could be categorized as dream pop. Plus, you have the local institutions like Windy & Carl.

The problem is that Detroit is such a rough place to make a living that a lot of the bands leave once they achieve some success. (Come back, Benoît Pioulard!) But there's still some good stuff going on, and I expect that to continue with the recently renewed interest in shoegaze. I'll update as I encounter more.

we don't have much of a shoegaze scene really. the only bands i know of are my friends' band Glen Eyrie, Pity Sex (though more on the emo side of things), and Procession.
